Istanbul (EON) – The violence near the northern border of Iraq has picked up as Kurdish rebels attacked a Turkish army patrol on Sunday leaving 12 soldiers dead.
Turkey is getting into it pretty deep in Iraq already as they made the move last week to send troops into the northern border of Iraq to try and eradicate the Kurdish rebels. In response to the attacks on Sunday Turkey sent in a lot of gunfire to try and respond.
Iraqi President Jalal Talabani ordered the rebels to lay down their arms or leave Iraq.
Turkey ignored the call from the Iraqi president though, who is a Kurd himself, stating that the time for talks have passed and the time for action is now.
Turkish Prime Mininster Recep Tayyip Erdogan stated that “Our anger is great. We have the decisiveness to act on these events in cold blood, and so we are determined.”
In Baghdad U.S. led forces killed 49 insurgents on Sunday in fighting with Shiite militia members. This was the deadliest fighting in recent months in Iraq.
