Tokyo (EON) – One day after resigning as the Prime Minister of Japan, Shinzo Abe was placed in the hospital for gastrointestinal problems while a successor is mulled over.
The Liberal Democratic Party who governs Japan has pushed back the date to choose the successor to Abe.
Abe is expected to spend at least three days in the hospital. He is apparently having a great deal of problems with his digestive system. He also has a lack of appetitie, stress, and fatigue.
His doctor is at Keio University Hospital.
Officials stated his fading health had a lot to do with him resigning as the Prime Minister.
The election to choose a new leader would be held now on September 23rd according to party officials. This is a delay from the original September 19th date.
Officials stated extra time would allow candidates to campaign more.
Taro Aso is considered the front-runner but had close ties with Abe which does not put him in high regard in Japan.
Yasuo Fukuda also has a great deal of support as the former chief cabinet minister who is a moderate is trying to get Abe’s former job as Prime Minister as well.
