Beijing (EON) – The Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe has told executives in his coalition that he is going to resign his post.
The Japanese media made the report on Wednesday stating that Abe told executives in his ruling coalition that he will be stepping down from his post as Prime Minister and resigning.
Abe stated that he was going to step down if he failed to extend a Japanese naval mission which supported US operations in Afghanistan. That was last Sunday.
Abe rules the Liberal Democratic Party but has seen a lot of support ratings plummet since July when his party also lost quite a bit in elections.
Many financial scandals have also plagued those in his cabinet.
Abe’s friend and ally Taro Aso who is the secretary general of the Liberal Democratic Party is expected to succeed Abe when he resigns.
Abe took the office of Prime Minister just one year ago and had promised to raise the global security profile of Japan.
