Jakarta (EON) – A powerful undersea earthquake rocked the capital of Indonesia on Thursday, Jakarta.
The earthquake ranked in with a magnitude of 7.5 and was centered 110 kilometers off Jakarta at a depth of 290 kilometers according to reports.
The earthquake was fairly intense as it gave homes in Jakarta a shake and sent citizens fleeing into the streets in a panic as they tried to evade tall buildings and debris. According to initial reports it seems that the damage is minimal.
Thankfully since the quake was so deep in the water the risk of a tsunami was very small according to Robert Cessaro from the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in Hawaii.
Back in December of 2004 a massive earthquake sent a tsunami into Indonesia which killed 131,000 people and left 500,000 homeless.
According to initial reports though as stated there appears to be nothing that suggests a tsunami looms nor is there any suggestion of any significant damage or deaths.
