Jerusalem (EON) – The U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is set to mee with the president of Palestine Mahmud Abbas on Thursday as she pushed for a Middle East peace conference.
This was the first visit to the region by Rice and the final leg of her regional tour as she tries to gain support for this planned peace conference which is hopefully going to occur before the end of the year.
This was the first visit to this region since the Hamas took control of the Gaza Strip back in the middle of June.
Palestine is a bad way right now as it is split into two factions each fighting and struggling for power and support.
Rive stated that “We do have in the Palestinian territories a government that is devoted to the international principles, the foundational principles for peace and this is an opportunity that should not be missed.”
The US has pledged $80 million to help the defense needs of Palestine.
