A man infected with HIV, the virus that can cause AIDS, has admitted having deliberately infected his wife by injecting into her with his blood while she slept, reported Sunday a newspaper in New Zealand.
The man apparently wanted his to be infected with HIV so that she would agrees to have sex with him, she refused since she had learned he was HIV positive, The Sunday Star-Times reported.
According to documents from the investigation and cited by the newspaper, the husband, aged 35, was bitten twice by his wife with a sewing needle dipped in blood, and it has again caught to also handle a syringe filled with blood.
The man admitted that he infected his wife, aged 33 years and faces up to 14 years in prison. He should be tried early next year by a court in Auckland, in northern New Zealand. The husband discovered in 2004 that he was carrying HIV during medical check.
His wife said she wanted to stay with him because of the children, but she refused to have sex for fear of being contaminated. She said that last she had discovered a mark on her left thigh, and she had been awakened with a start two days later by the sensation of being bitten in the leg.
Four months later, after a review of routine health, she discovered she was HIV positive. She asked her husband, who admitted his guilt.
