Toronto – According to Australian researchers, mushrooms and green tea could help halve the risk of breast cancer.
Published in the International Journal of Cancer, the study found that just 10 grams of mushrooms, protect against breast cancer. The research found that additional protection was also provided by green tea.
Led by Dr. Min Zhang of the University of Western Australia, researchers examined the effects of mushrooms on approximately 2,000 Chinese women — half of whom had breast cancer.
“While the researchers have stressed that this study does not prove a cause-and-effect relationship, the study has shown that it is biologically plausible for mushrooms and green tea to play a significant dietary role in reducing the risk of breast cancer.â€
Breast cancer is the most common cancer among Canadian women. On average, 431 Canadian women will be diagnosed with breast cancer every week.
