Toronto – A new scientific study has found that generic heart drugs work as well as brand name heart drugs. The study was done by researchers at Harvard Medical School and Boston’s Brigham and Women’s Hospital.
The researchers looked at many different types of classes of drugs. These drugs were used to treat many different medical issues related to the heart. Such medical issues include: chest pain, coronary artery disease, high blood pressure, cholesterol, and clotting etc.
The researchers looked at forty seven different scientific studies to compare the generic drugs to the brand name drugs. The studies covered over a twenty four year span. They started in 1984 and are currently being done in 2008.
The case studies showed that the generic heart drugs in all different classes were just as effective as the name brand versions. These classes of drugs include: beta-blockers, calcium channel blockers, statins, and blood thinners.
This study was published in the Journal of the American Medical Association. This study is beneficial to people who cannot afford to purchase brand name drugs for their heart issues. The economy is bad right now and many people are deciding to purchase generic drugs to save money.
This study helps to address worries that people might have with buying generic drugs. They want to be sure that they are buying medications that will be just as effective as brand name drugs at treating their heart issues. People who take brand name drugs may now switch to generic drugs to deal with their heart issues. They do not have to pay the extra costs to have a good heart medication.
In today’s economy it is hard to know what to spend more money on in order to get the best quality product. This study allows people with heart issues to finally know that generic drugs and name brand jobs are virtually the same in terms of overall health benefits. This will help people with heart issues decide whether generic or name brand drugs are the correct drugs for them.
