New York – Recent studies have shown that there is a direct correlation between eating in the western way and being in a higher risk category for suffering from a heart attack. The common westerner eats a diet rich in fried foods, meats and animal fats, salt, and junk foods. These studies suggest that practicing western eating habits can raise you risk of having a heart attack 30% – 35%.
Not only did these studies show a greater risk of heart attack by those practicing western eating habits, but it also showed that people who ate a diet rich in fruits and vegetables ( more then meats, and fried food) had a 30% less chance of suffering from a heart attack. So, not only does a western diet chalk full of high fat foods cause an increased risk for heart attacks, but eating proportionatly more fruits and vegetables then junk food can actually decrease your risk factor for having a heart attack.
This study further showed no correlation between heart attack risk and the usual oriental diet, which is high is salt, soy, and tofu. Recently China has seen an increase in wealth, and with it came more… well just more of everything. This includes access to experience things that are western, like fast food. This has cause an increase in health problem of all kinds including heart attacks. Reverting back to the usual diet, or even better, converting to a diet high in fruit and vegetable consumption would greatly improve China’s health.
