Study Reveals Heart Surgery More Effective Long Term
Munich, Germany- The members and health professionals at the International Medical Conference this week in Munich Germany have the benefit of some of the most advance researchers and veterans in medical research to learn from.
One of the studies being revealed at Munich this week bypass coronary surgery may be the best intervention in patients long term, and that while the usage of Stents is a positive step that will save a lot of lives, the best and most effective treatment long term is the coronary Bypass surgery.
The study was based on the premise that the sickest patients should be treated with a heart stent, and their premise failed. While they set out to demonstrate that the best procedure is to use stents, they wound up confirming that the best procedure is more often to rush the patient into immediate coronary bypass surgery.
Stenting took a bit of a setback this week, the results of the study confirm that coronary bypass is much more effective, especially in the long term.
Experts in the medial field estimate that up to 100,000 patients in the United States have been getting stants, and that they all would have been better served to receive long term with surgery.
This is expected to be a blow for the makers of stents around the world.
The study was sponsored by stent manufacturer Boston Scientific, and they had hoped to show the wisdom of using stents especially because of the lest invasive insertion process.
