
Edmonton Man Still Suffers Effects After Infection 6 Years Ago
Edmonton-Many people report that they recover from the West Nile Virus within a year or sometimes 18 months after being first infected.
But for an older Edmonton gentleman, he is still affected after being infected first with the West Nile Virus 6 years ago.
Jackie Reid does not have a great deal of faith in West Nile Research, or the medical health system that has treated her husband because she knows firsthand how a victim of the West Nile Virus can suffer the ill effects for years after being infected.
Ron Rein was bitten by a mosquito and contracted the West Nile Virus in 2002, while visiting in Toronto.
Since that time, it has progresses into a neurological issue, encephalitis, and it caused his brain to swell, that after nearly 7 years still requires that Ron have round the clock care.
All from a tiny mosquito bite.
Canadian researchers are discovering more and more victims of the West Nile Virus that suffer the effects of the disease, well past the normal 12 months that many victims in the past have reported their symptoms.
Many of the people uncovered by the recent research show that some people literally never totally recover after being affected by the West Nile Virus.
