Mysterious Bacterial Infection Strikes Two Babies In 48-Hour Period
Alberta- The mysterious infection that has struck down two infants at an Alberta hospital in a two-day period has attracted the attention of the Alberta health authorities.
One baby died, and the other is in critical condition, and both were separately struck about a day apart in a hospital in Lethbridge.
Both infants were transferred to a Calgary hospital after they each contracted a flesh and tissue infection that attacks healthy tissue, but that is not a flesh eating bacteria, as was first misreported by some media sources.
Alberta’s Acting Deputy Health Officer has said that there is now an active Alberta province investigation to find out why two otherwise healthy infants both were made ill.
“It is possible that is may be just a coincidence having two cases at nearly the same time, but we want to investigate to determine for sure the cause, and to make sure whatever the cause that it does not occur again,†said Richard Musto, the Alberta Deputy Health Officer.
There has been no evidence to this point that there was any mistreatment or malpractice on the part of the Lethbridge hospital in how the infants were treated, but because there were two cases that affected infants at the same hospital in a 48-hour period, the Province has stepped in to investigate.
