
Type II Diabetic Drug Causes Additional 4 Hospitalizations Also
Washington, D.C.- The Diabetic drug Byetta is being reported by the Food and Drug Administration in the cause of death for 2 people, and the hospitalization of several more.
The FDA has announced plans to strengthen the warning about problems of pancreas side effects that can be life threatening in the warnings that are required to be given in writing with the drug.
Reports of patients experiencing hemmorhagic pancreatic issues have been the cause of death along with inflammation of the pancreas with severe bleeding
Six patients in all have been reported to have serious complications, two who have died, and four that have been hospitalized.
Byetta is given by Injection and was first approved by the FDA in 2005.
Drug company Eli Lily and Amylin both work to produce the drug Byetta, and they maintain that the complications are rare and can be avoided if proper care is taken.
It is vital to make sure that the patient that is taking Byetta is monitored closely and the drug discontinued immediately if any side effects or complications are experienced.
The FDA does not have any plans to withdraw the drug, but urge that patients work closely with their doctors to make certain there are no complications.
