Nearly 34 Percent Of Teenagers Abuse Prescription Drugs
New York- A new study has revealed that nearly 34 percent of today’s teenagers are engaged in some type of prescription drug abuse.
Researchers from the National Center of Addiction and Substance Abuse located at Columbia University worked to survey 1002 teens.
These teenagers are age 12 to 17 years of age, and their 312 parents.
The survey asked “which is easiest to buy, prescription drugs or cigarettes and beer?”
The results show that around 19 percent of the teenagers interviewed reveal that its easier to get marijuana and drugs within an hour.
The need for parents to be more involved was revealed by the survey, and it has also shown that most of the surveyed kids had parents that knew they were involved with drugs.
The survey pointed out a lot of the involvement that todays teens are involved in, and that the stigma that has been attached to many different activities in the past are no longer seen with many current drug related activities.
Partly because different groups and the teens themselves see drug involvement as not such a big deal, it has eroded much of the social norms that helped prevent drug addiction and drug involvement in the past.
