New Library Of Cells To Be Shared By US Researchers
Washington, D.C.- Experts that work in stem cell research in the United States have announced that they have come up with a new method of reprogramming ordinary cells to act and look like embryonic stem cells.
This has resulted in a new library of Stem cells that are available to be used in research and the US scientists have announced that they will be sharing them with researchers around the world who seek to use them.
The new cells are from 10 patients that have incurable diseases, diseases such ad ALS, juvenile diabetes, and Down’s syndrome.
The new find is being documented at Harvard University, including publication in the medical journal Cell.
The team from the Children’s Hospital in Boston and Harvard Medical school have said that the main benefit is to get as many researchers around the world using these cells, so that they can be utilized in different types of research to benefit solving medical puzzles and curing chronic disease.
The new cells are called induced pluripotent stem cells, and are used from four genes that help to reprogram the cells into primitive stage human stem cells.
