Protection Against HIV And AIDS May Be Provided
Washington, D. C. – Long-term survivors of HIV have been shown to produce certain antibodies that are extremely rare, and these types of potent antibodies can perhaps help to fight HIV And AIDS in other people.
The Antibodies seem to work against a HIV protein called gp120, and they may provide different useful methods to fight the HIV virus.
The antibodies are being studied as a possible microbicide that could be used to protect HIV positive people from spreading the disease during sexual intercourse, and to be utilized overall in fighting the disease.
This information was disclosed at the 17th Annual HIV and AIDS conference being held this week in Mexico City, and is a bright spot in the continued fight against HIV and AIDS.
The international Search for a vaccine AIDS mcrobicide have been frustrating over the years, and while there are continued small successes, the overall search for a AIDS vaccine has remained elusive.
Antibodies that are being described attack a crucial but small region of HIV and the outer cell structure, where the virus binds to its immune cell prey, cells called lymphocytes.
Acting as an enzyme, the antibody clips on to cells, then later falls away ready to do the job again.
