Advanced DNA Tests Gave Crucial Evidence To Investigators
Washington, D.C.-The United States Government has declared the 2001 anthrax attacks solved as of Wednesday, but there is still a lot of questions surrounding the main suspect, who committed suicide before he could be arrested.
Army Scientist Dr. Bruce Ivins, 62 years of age, was discovered by being tracked by his DNA and the FBI was preparing arrest warrants to be served on Dr. Ivins.
As prosecutors prepared to bring charges, Dr. Ivins was discovered dead, having committed suicide before he could be served with warrants for his arrest.
DNA testing also showed that the spores that were found to have killed five people and which gripped and held the entire nation in shock were identical to the spores of anthrax that were in Dr. Ivins laboratory.
During the 2001 attacks, Dr. Ivins had many late nights in his laboratory that could not be explained, and that further served to implicate him in the 2001 anthrax scare.
An email that was released to the press written by Dr. Ivins used language nearly identical to one of the Anthrax letters.
It is believed that Dr. Ivins was angry about the critical comments made by some people concerning his work toward an anthrax vaccine.
