43 Percent Of Swimming Diving Injuries From Striking Board

Toronto-A new study being released shows that the injuries that result in the sport of Olympic Swimming and Diving deal with the diver striking the board as they perform their dives.

A new study of young people from emergencies rooms across the United States reveal that there are about 111,000 diving related injuries that come to light.

This study involved people dealing with emergency rooms after being involved in swim related incidents, and only reported youth 19 years of age and below.

Co-author of the study is Lara McKenzie, who works for the Centre for Injury and Police at the Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus Ohio.

The study is being published in the medical journal Pediatrics, and it takes a fresh look at the whole demographic range of diving and swim related board injuries.

According to statistics supplied to the study authors by Safe Kids Canada, nationally in Canada the typical average diving related injury is to the spine, and occurs in young men 17 to 22 years old, with no formal diving training and that have often been drinking before diving.

These Canadian statistics are also confirmed by the Canadian Red Cross.
