Officials Have Concerns Over Possible Salmonella Contamination
Vancouver- The produce item cilantro is being voluntarily recalled in the Western regions of Canada because of fear of possible Salmonella contamination.
The company that imports cilantro is from California, and it is being retailed under the names Cross Valley Farms, Ready Set Serve, and Newstar.
The cilantro has been sold and distributed in Alberta, Manitoba, and British Columbia, as well as parts of the Western United States.
Possible sales in more than 20 states in the United States is likely of the possibly contaminated cilantro.
The strain of salmonella that has been identified in the cilantro is the same St. Paul strain that has made more than 1,300 people sick, and that has been also traced to a farm in Mexico, to jalapeno and Serrano peppers.
The cilantro is packaged in clear plastic wrap bags, and is being requested to be brought back to the point of purchase.
If you have purchased cilantro under these brand names, and have not consumed it, please return it to the store you purchased it from for a full refund.
Salmonella normally lives in the intestinal tracts of animals and birds, and it is transmitted to people by cross contamination of food by animal waste and feces.
