Many In Medical Field Laud And Support His Action
Washington, D.C.- In a ceremony in the White House, President Bush signed into law on Wednesday a bill that reauthorizes and expands the support to fight AIDS and HIV in Africa.
The measure is one that will pledge support to the tune of $48 billion dollars, and it is believed to be the largest single commitment by any nation to combat disease in history.
The Emergency Presidential Plan for AIDS Relief program calls for a total money expenditure of $48 billion dollars to be spent sometime over the next five years.
Of this amount $39 billion will be directed to the fight against HIV/AIDS and an additional amount totaling $5 billion to fight Malaria, and about $4 billion dollars to be directed toward the fight against TB and Tuberculosis.
The Bush Administration has worked to provide support and funding to date for various AIDS and HIV anti retroviral drugs, which has directly aided nearly 1.7 million people in Africa.
This is up from the initial commitment to help 50,000 people that were enacted when the plan was began in 2003. The President has increased his support considerably for the program since 2003, and in small ways made it one of his pet projects.
