Massive Levels Of Government Dysfunction Led To Issue Last Fall
Ottawa- According to the Canadian Minister of Health, Tony Clement, the different members of the government and the purveyors of the Chalk River Nuclear Isotope plant were simply not communicating with each other.
“There was a massive level of dysfunctional issues that led to the crisis,†said Minister Clement.
These comments tend to support the independent findings that a consultant group arrived at last week.
“This was a crisis that could not have advanced and reached the point that it did without a great deal of miscommunication and missed opportunities,†stated Health Minister Clement.
The Chalk River Nuclear plant produces vital medical isotopes and nuclear chemicals that are used around the world in medical imagining.
When the plant was found to not have done its required maintenance, it was suddenly shut down in November 2007.
This led to a sudden crisis and shortage of the vital nuclear isotopes that the plant produces.
The Chalk River plant was restarted in a hurry by an act of the Canadian Parliament in December 2007, and it has run continually since then.
The report that was generated recently by an independent consultant group reveals that during the isotope shortage, the Atomic Energy of Canada Ltd organization, the government, and others each did their own thing, and communications broke down.
