Edmonton May Have City Water Fluoridation Reduced
Edmonton- One of the local area health organizations has advocated a cut in the amount of fluoride put into the water of Edmonton.
EPCOR, which provides the city of Edmonton with its water is being requested to reduce the maximum amount of the fluoride chemical in city water from 0.8 parts per million to 0.7 parts per million.
Dr. Gerry Predy from Capital Health has announced he is asking EPCOR for the Fluoride reduction.
Fluoride has been provided with the water of many cities across North America for decades, it has proven to help fight tooth decay and cavities, and it can assist healthy human development in a number of ways.
Recently experts fear that in some cases the amount of Fluoride is perhaps too high, so calls for a reduction have gone out.
Health Canada now recommends that the amount of fluoride in municipal water supplies should be a maximum of 0.7 ppm.
The municipal utility EPCOR that supplies the water said that such a chance is easy to make. Spokesman Mike Gibbs said that the senior management has always been glad to cooperate with health officials in such issues.
“Its simple to reduce the fluoride, we can implement the change in less than 90 minutes,†said Mr. Gibbs.
