
They are being advised to place them in high traffic areas where people will see them at all different times of the day and night to prevent them from vandalism, loitering, or damage, or even criminal type activity.
The biggest city in Canada, Toronto is receiving 20 of these brand new high technical toilets by next summer, and the cities in North America that already have these toilets are sharing how successful they can be, but with some caveats.
While several of the cities have had success, one of the lone exceptions was Seattle.
Seattle did several things that caused the complete failure of their automated toilets.
They placed them in areas that in many ways were isolated, and they became havens for prostitution and drug dealing.
Also Seattle has local laws that prevent the toilets from having advertising space on them, or they being charges a small admission, such as a quarter.
Toronto plans to copy the examples of other cities, such as New York City, and Toronto will charge $1 for each use, and limit time to 15 minutes.
The toilets will also be put in high traffic areas.
