Less Early Brain Atrophy With Improved Physical Shape

Chicago- People who are in better physical shape are showing that they exhibit less signs of Alzheimer’s Disease, according to a new study.

The Study, which is being reported today at the 2008th Alzheimer’s Association International Conference in Chicago reveals some exciting new information on the subject.

Using Magnetic Resonance Imaging, those people who have better fitness ratings were examined and the results tracked.

This is the first time that MRI images have been used on Alzheimer’s patients in this manner, and it was used to show that better physical fitness resulted in less brain wasting and atrophy in the hippocampus.

The Hippocampus part of the brain is often the area struck first and hardest from those people who suffer from Alzheimer’s disease.

The conference also a program of home exercise assist the elderly with improved balance, lessens the incidence of falls, and helps them maintain elements of independence and overall qualify of life.

“These studies reinforce how important it is to encourage seniors and others to stay active and physically mobile,” said William Thies.
