New Rule Helps Fight Virus

Halifax- The town of Halifax has decided to take it to the mosquito, in a manner of speaking.

Leaving that kiddie pool on your lawn full of rainwater unattended is one of the standing water actions that would violate the new city ordnance.

The town has announced that it is now illegal to leave untreated water to sit and become breeding grounds for mosquitoes and insect activity.

The new rule states that containers of water outside, even birdbaths must be emptied out and cleaned once every 4 days.

Areas such as flowerpots, kiddy pools, even wheelbarrows can be breeding grounds for mosquitoes if left unattended.

The new rule is meant to guide and encourage compliance for the most part, but it does have some teeth, too.

The town has the authority to issue fines up to $300 dollars for scofflaws and those that ignore the new regulations.

The town of Halifax anticipates that such measures will not be necessary except rarely.

It’s a matter of helping town residents learn why the new measures are in place, and helping them understand it’s in everyone’s best self interest to comply.
