New York City- The mayor of New York City has joined with Microsoft founder Bill Gates to announce a new initiative effort to fight smoking and tobacco in America.

The two billionaires met and announced what they call their global tobacco fight on Wednesday as they met for the announcement in New York City.

Mayor Bloomberg also was responsible in 2002 for the innovative smoking ban that the city of New York now imposes.

“We see smoking as an epidemic that we can work to stop,” said Gates

Both billionaires point to the success of bans on smoking across the united states, many states have laws now banning smoking in bars and restaurants, as well as sometimes in other public venues.

They spoke to the media about the need to assist third world countries, and help provide education directly so that people are duly aware of the high levels of danger in smoking.

Its been proven fact for some time now that smoking is a leading health risk, and one of the chief culprits in causing lung cancer.

Both of them are committed to the ongoing effort to fight smoking and tobacco usage around the world, both in the United States and overseas.
