Increased Staff And Supervision Need For Province Nursing Homes

Durham- The Durham Region officials that are responsible for overseeing nursing homes and nursing home staff has said that the homes in the province need increased staff.

Health Care for nursing home patients in the Durham area needs to be increased, and the needs of patients need to have more attention paid to them.

Judy Heffern is the director of long-term care and senior services for Durham, and she states that there just is not enough funding or staff hours to keep patients needs met.

“We struggle with funding and staffing, the region supports our efforts, but we are not as well staffed as we should be,” said Heffern.

There are a multitude of special care needs for the elderly in the Province, and currently many of the needs for older citizens in these nursing homes are not adequately being provided for.

Province funding does not purchase as much staffing or staffing levels as is needed, according to Heffern.

More needs to be done, and under the watchful eye of Ms. Heffern, now may be the start of a process of improvement and change.
