CDC Releases New Figures About Obesity Survey
Boston-The results of the annual survey are in from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the state of Mississippi again leads the race for most obese state in the country.
Since 2004 Mississippi has been at the top of the list, and so far they are continuing to hold their title as the heaviest state in the United States.
The states with the heaviest residents appear to be in the south, with those living in rural districts and women being more likely to be obese than otherwise.
Alabama, West Virginia, Tennessee and Louisiana all have rates of obesity over 30 percent.
This means that all of these states including Mississippi have at least 30 percent of their adults that are seriously overweight.
Many people say this is because the southern diet is filled with high calorie and high fat items, and features a lot of fried foods.
The state with the least amount of overweight people was Colorado.
Colorado had a state of 19 percent that are considered overweight.
People that are overweight or severely obese are at greater risk for high blood pressure, stroke, heart failure, diabetes, as well as a host of other health concerns.
