Package Is About Half Of Calgary Retiring Chief Health Official

Edmonton- As the head Capital Health CEO official in Alberta prepares to move into her retirement it was announced her retirement package will be about $2 million dollars; about half of what her peer in Calgary is getting for their retirement.

Sheila Weatherill will receive a package of retirement salary and benefits that totals about $2 million dollars according to reports from key individuals.

Capital Health has said that they work to interact with the Alberta Health Services Board and Taxpayer Federation to strive to base retirement benefits and packages partly on performance.

“We do not believe that anyone at Capital Health is against performance measurements, and Sheila has been consistently ranked as an outstanding performer,” said Steve Buick.

Mr. Buick is a spokesman for Capital Health Services.

It was revealed earlier that the former Calgary Health authority CEO Jack Davis is receiving a pay and retirement benefit package valued at close to $4 million dollars.

According to Scott Hennig of the Canadian Taxpayers Federation Davis is an example of why distinct performance indicators are necessary.

Davis receives his benefit package despite the fact that the Calgary Authority, which he partly oversaw, ran up a deficit of nearly $97 million dollars last year, including Davis’s annual $1.2 million dollar bonus.

“One wonders how much Davis would have gotten in retirement if he had not blown out the budget by over $90 million dollars,” said Hennig.
