Fresh Tomatoes Said Safe To Eat
Washington, D.C.- The previous warning given by the FDA about tomatoes has been canceled, and it is again safe to eat tomatoes on sale in the USA.
This effectively cancels the earlier warning that the Federal Food and Drug Administration had issues saying that Tomatoes of certain types were not safe to eat.
The FDA and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are currently warning anyone who may have weak immune systems to not eat salsa, or Serrano and jalapeno peppers.
The new warning against peppers tends to indicate that government scientists are feeling a lot more confident about finding a cause for the current outbreak of salmonella.
The outbreak has affected 42 states and made over 1,196 people sick.
The outbreak of salmonella is not over, but it does appear to be losing some of its intensity, which may be a positive note.
The outbreak first began in April, and it has led to warnings about a number of different fresh produce foods.
In addition to fresh peppers, cilantro, Tomatoes as well as other types of produce have been mentioned as possible sources of the illness.
State, county, and federal health officials have been frustrated with their inability to find the cause of the contamination, and meanwhile people continue to get sick.
