Rate Of Worldwide Survival Ranks Canada Among Highest Countries
Toronto- The countries where people are successful at surviving cancer are calculated each year, and once again Canada ranks among the top nation.
Canada ranks third in prostate cancer, and colorectal cancer survival in woman, and second overall in survivability for breast cancer among women.
The study is called the CONCORD study, and it compares directly the rates of survival for 31 countries in four types of cancer, two types for men and two types for women.
Women’s rates of survival for colon cancer and breast cancer are compared, while men are ranked in their ability to survive colon cancer and prostate cancer.
There is not a lot of variation across the provinces in Canada; the high rate of survival is consistent across the entire nation.
“What we think is quite striking is that for all of these cancers, the survival in Canada is high and pretty uniform,” the study’s lead author Dr. Michel Coleman said. . “There isn’t much difference between the Canadian provinces,” he said.
The study was published online and will also be published in the August edition of the Lancet Oncology medical journal.
The high survival rate suggests that Canadians have good access to reliable health care, and it bodes well for the health of Canada as a whole.
Another country in the list of 31 that is similar year to year like Canada is Australia, which has a universal health care system quite similar to Canada’s.
