Teenagers in British Columbia Are Making Wiser Choices
Vancouver, B.C.- It appears that the teenagers in British Columbia are beginning to practice and observe safer habits in the area of sexual relations.
Teens appear to be waiting longer to have sex, and when they are sexually active it appears that they are using condoms more than in past generational times.
A new sexual health trend survey shows that there have been changes in how teenagers approach and deal with sex.
The survey reported a significant change in the numbers of men and women who are having sex in their teenage years.
Past surveys have been held in 1992, 1998, and 2003. The survey this year showed that the percentage of young men who have tried sex dropped from 33.9 percent down to 23 percent.
The percentage of young women who report having tried sex dropped to 24.3 percent, from the previous high of 28.6 percent.
The number of teens who said that they use a condom on a regular basis increased sharply, showing that for those teens that are sexually active that they are much more aware of the potential circumstances.
The findings for this study are being published in the Canadian Journal of Human Sexuality, and it examined kids in grades 7 – 12 in the British Columbia public schools.
