New Medication Starves Tumors And Aids Cancer Recovery
Washington, D.C.- Amgen has created a new pill that is taken once-a-day that works to starve tumors and can help many patients with hard to solve and hard to treat thyroid Cancers.
The pills work to either slow the development of tumor growth, or by shrinking tumors.
Amgen has found during their research a genetic clue, or markers that can often reveal which patients are the most likely to be helped by their new medication.
By the discovery of the new genetic marker it may lead to a more tailored treatment for individual patients, according to researchers.
The new results are being reported in the latest edition of the New England Journal of Medicine.
According to the new research, nearly 49 percent of patients that have advanced thyroid cancer are able to respond positively to the new medication.
The new medication is called motesanib disphosphate, or AMG 706.
The patients in the study, in the 49 percent that received benefit from this new medication, 14 percent of these saw their tumors shrink.
The other 35 percent of the patients had their tumors remain the same and not grow at all for 24 weeks.
