San Francisco- In new research completed by scientists working with Virginias Commonwealth University, breakfast may really be crucial to effective long-term weight loss. Researcher Dr. Daniela Jakubowicz spoke to a conference in San Francisco of health professionals recently and talked about the research that he and his fellow scientists have been working on in Virginia.
In a study of 96 physically inactive and obese women a diet of breakfast was contrasted against a diet of low carbohydrates.
The diet involved just over 1085 calories for the low calorie diet, and the other diet that featured a large breakfast was just over 1240 calories.
At first the dieters that ate the large breakfast seemed to be losing, the low calorie dieters were losing weight faster.
But after 8 months, the people that ate breakfast consistently and consumed the 1240 calories had actually lost more weight than the group that ate the low carbohydrate diet.
The dieters who ate a good breakfast had after 8 months lost an average of 20 percent of their body weight, compared to just 5 percent for the low carbohydrate dieters.
