Arlington – A new experimental patch by the Iomai Corporation has shown promise in helping to prevent stomach discomfort and diarrhea for visitors that traveled to Guatemala and Mexico according to researchers.
Even for those people that tested the product that did feel discomfort or experience stomach problems, the intensity and the duration was greatly improved for those that were using the new medicine.
“It is one of the more exciting new developments in medicine for travelers,†said Dr. Herbert DuPont.
Dr. DuPont is one of the researchers at the University of Texas in Houston, who helped formulate and test the new experimental vaccine.
The medication is actually a vaccine, that is delivered needle free through a patch worn on the skin.
The vaccine protects against different strains of Escherichia coli bacteria that tend to cause discomfort, stomach pain and diarrhea for people that are tourists or visitors to regions of Mexico, Central America and Guatemala.
This has been an ongoing problem for many years, and the Iomai Team of researchers has taken on the issue and developed this promising new vaccine that can be put on whenever a traveler is headed to one of these regions.
