Caution Issued For Large Tomatoes Including Round Red And Roma
Washington, D.C.- With the outbreak of nearly 144 confirmed cases of Salmonella nationwide the Food and Drug Administration is issuing a warning concerning large tomatoes, including Roma and Round red, and other types of fresh raw large tomatoes.
The salmonella type “SaintPaul†has been spreading, especially in western states and has infected over 140 people since the first of April this year.
Until the current infection crisis is over, the FDA is cautioning people to use tomatoes with their vine attached, cherry and grape tomatoes, as well as tomatoes that are grown at home.
No one has yet died from this current Salmonella outbreak, but 23 different people have been rendered seriously ill and required hospitalization.
The most recent victim is a woman who lives in Contra Cost California. It is unknown how she got the virus but she has been in several of the states where others have contracted the “Saint Paul†version of the salmonella illness.
Patients have been diagnosed as positively having the Saint Paul virus in Washington State, Wisconsin, Colorado, Arizona, Illinois, Idaho, New Mexico, Indiana, Utah, Virginia, Oklahoma, Oregon, and Kansas.
