FDA Says Substances Put In Blood Thinner Likely Intentional

Washington- The working theory that the FDA has says that the contaminates that were placed in the Heparin blood thinner supply in China were done so deliberately, with intent.

The FDA did not as clearly state this in earlier statements to the public, but this is what the FDA now believes.

“We have not yet been able to conclusively prove it but that is our working hypothesis, that the contaminates were placed in the blood thinner intentionally,” said Dr. Janet Woodcock.

Dr. Woodcock is the director of the FDA drug center, and she spoke to the Congressional House committee on Oversight and Investigations. Dr. Woodcock spoke via written testimony in a letter presented to the committee on Tuesday.

As much as one third of the actual volume in the Heparin that was contaminated was made up of the contaminated material and Dr. Woodcock says that it strains the credulity to believe that it was done in any way short of intentionally.

A little less than two weeks ago a FDC Commissioner told a Senate subcommittee that the contamination was an attempt at economic fraud but then hurriedly withdrew the remarks.

This is the first time that the contamination of Heparin has been openly talked about as an intentional act.
