Washington, D.C. – Many people have urged consuming a breakfast as the best way to start a healthy day. Well now it appears that there is concrete evidence of the truth of this statement.
Researchers in Minnesota have discovered that teenagers who regularly eat breakfast are ones that tend to exercise more, to eat more healthy than their peers, and to weigh less.
In a study involving 2,216 different adolescents in the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St Paul, Minnesota, researchers discovered the healthy benefits of eating breakfast. Teenagers were tracked for five years, and the results compared for each year and across the length of the study.
The average age of the Teenagers when they entered the study was 15 years of age. The more that teens tended to eat a healthy breakfast, the lower their body mass index, or their BMI factor, and the less prone to disease they were.
The study was published recently in the medial journal Pediatrics.
“Kids that eat a healthy breakfast frequently, and especially the ones that were faithful and eat a healthy breakfast every day are overall very healthy,†said Mark Pereira. Pereira is with the School of Public Health located at University of Minnesota.
“These kids have a lower fat intake, eat more fiber and consume less cholesterol. They have a better diet and are more physically active,†said Mr. Pereira.
