Walthan (EON) – Bentley College of Waltham, MA has come out and confirmed that a five-year student by the name of Erin Ortiz died on Monday morning due to bacterial meningitis.
She dies at a hospital in her home state of New York at the Westchester Medical Center. She was visiting her family in New Hampton, NY when she was taken to the hospital.
Bentley has come out and stated that its health services were notified of the illness of Ortiz on Sunday by the Massachusetts Department of Health.
Students of Bentley have been notified and those who were in close contact with her are now taking precautionary antibiotics.
Students are also being encouraged to seek health care if they experience any symptoms at all of the disease which can be transmitted by contact with saliva.
Symptoms include stiff neck, neck pain, nausea, vomiting, rash, and headache, as well as fever.
