Boston (EON) - According to researchers a lack of sleep could double the risk of dying from heart disease.
A long-term study found that people who reduced their nightly sleep from seven hours to five hours or fewer had a 1.7-fold increased risk of dying from heart disease. They also doubled the risk of death from a cardiovascular disorder.
Those who were able to increase how long they slept for up to 8 hours or more a night were also more than twice as likely to die as those who had not changed their sleeping rituals at all.
The study was done by the University of Warwick at the University College London.
They looked at over 10,000 people and their sleep habits. About 1/3 of adults in the UK get 5 hours or less of sleep a night with the average being seven.
The main resolution to all of this is that 7 to 8 hours of sleep per night may be the perfect amount for perfect health.
