Boston (EOn) – Leading HIV researchers are pushing for a new policy on children being vaccinated for tuberculosis.
This comes after a warning which was put out by the World Health Orgranization in regards to TB swhich stated that the vaccine itself could actually cause infections in babies with their immune systems as they have already been put in a weak state by HIV.
Babies who are born HIV-positive have mothers who carry their babies with HIV. They need to be diagnosed with tests which actually cost a lot of money to perform. They require polymerase chain reaction tests which are expensive and not widely available.
The problem is there is not ample resources to test everyone to see which baby should get the vaccine and which should not. A four-day meeting has been set up to discuss this very issue as 11,000 people are infected with the disease on a daily basis.
