Sacramento (EON) – A West Nile endemic has been declared in California due to a high number of cases in counties in the state as three have been infected in Kern County.
26 counties have already been affected by the West Nile virus in California and three people have been infected. Health officials made confirmation on Tuesday of the human cases.
Health officials are calling on the public to try and be aggressive in how they prepare to deal with the West Nile problems. They are being told to immunize their animals, drain water which has been in place for a period of time, and to put screens on windows to keep bugs out.
The three cases were from Kern County. The county also reported 41 dead birds testing positive for the virus.
