With a shocking annoucement during his show on Wednesday Lou Dobbs announced he was leaving CNN. One has to wonder if Dobbs decision has anything to do with the reported gunshots at his home in October? While this announcement surprized CNN network brass it also allows them to continue with their programming changes aimed at increasing their ratings after a continual drop since 2008. Dobbs replacement John King may well be the salvation of the CNN evening news programs as the lead into the evening news programs. During October a repeat of MSNBC’s “Hardball with Chris Matthews” crowned CNN with Dobb’s “Lou Dobbs Tonight” ranking third and it’s hoped that King will be able to take back the lead with a move away from the opinionated programming of recent times. King the 46 year old anchor of CNN’s 4 hour Sunday news program “State of the Union” is also their chief national correspondent, reporting on a range of stories in the United States and around the world. Before joining CNN in 1997 King worked as a chief political correspondent for the AP and was the head of their political coverage of both the 1992 and 1996 Presidential elections.
