Miss England quits after beauty queen bar brawl

Rachel Christie was stripped of her Miss England title after allegedly starting a bar brawl with Miss Manchester Sara Jones at an adult themed party. The 21-year-old disguised in an angel costume threw several punches before she was arrested on suspicion of assault.

The fight broke out when Jones showed Christie a racy text message from David McIntosh, the star of “Gladiator” where he is known as Tornado and Christie’s boyfriend. When the night was over, Jones posted a now deleted Twitter post that read “Bad time last night, assaulted in a night club.”

Pageant organizers have also asked Christie to withdraw from the Miss World competition being held in South Africa next month which she has done willingly and with all the grace of a former winner. Christie is out on bail until her court date in January, and plans to focus on training as a heptathlete for the 2012 Olympics until the case is settled.

Katrina Hodge who is an active soldier, will now take over duties to represent her county at the Miss World pageant.

She said: “I’ve only had just over 24 hours to prepare and a lot of the girls have a year, but I’m just going to take it in my stride. I’m used to having to pick up my life in five minutes.”

“In Miss World, we do lots of charity work and it’s something I feel very strongly about because of all the work they do. It’s not just Help for Heroes, but people like SSAFA (Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families’ Association), who a lot of people sometimes forget about,” added Hodge
