Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry said that singer Steven Tyler quit the band following a recent concert in Abu Dhabi, according to the Las Vegas Sun newspaper.
“Steven quit as far as I can tell,” Joe Perry.said from his Boston home. “I don’t know anymore than you do about it. I got off the plane two nights ago. I saw online that Steven said that he was going to leave the band. I don’t know for how long, indefinitely or whatever. Other than that, I don’t know.”
Perry said part of the problem is the complete lack of communication.
“Hasn’t called me in months,” Perry wrote. “A bit cold. What about fans? The people that also love him and put him where he is. After 40 years? … Last time I phoned him he hung up on me.”, Perry said on his Twitter page. “Obviously [Steve] hasn’t been giving 100 percent to this thing for a long time,” Perry further added. “He’s obviously had this planned for a long time. To disregard his brothers to the point where we have to find out about it on the Internet – it’s like, ‘See you later, Bud.’ I still care for him as a person, or at least the person I used to know. But things change.”
In August, Tyler fell of the stage while performing in Sturgis, South Dakota and broke his shoulder which forced the band to scrap the remainder of its summer tour with ZZ Top.
Aerosmith formed in 1969.
