School is back in session and network television is premiering all the newest shows to their repertoire. As Twilight and True Blood has ignited an interest in vampire stories, Vampire Diaries, hits the air waves at exactly the right time.
Based on a series of novels by L.J. Smith and similar to the Twilight series, Vampire Diaries chronicles a Vampire, Stefan, who returns to his old town from over a century ago to find Elena, a modern day teen, he is determined to meet because she resembles a woman he knew a century ago. The plot thickens as his estranged brother also returns to the small town of Mystic Falls and hasn’t taken to Stefan’s more civilized approach to being a Vampire, still feeding on human blood. Appropriately named, Damon returns to the town to live out his promise to bring an “eternity of misery” to Stefan.
The premiere sets up all of the basic introductions for each character while maintaining the integrity of a good plot. Damon decides to begin his terror on Stefan by biting a girl in town and leaving her alive; the girl then awakes at the hospital only to utter the word, “Vampire”.
Leaving us wanting more next week to see what happens next, Vampire Diaries is sure to capture a captive audience quickly and begin to make its mark in the Fall lineup.
