In early February 2009 Joaquin Phoenix had a coming out of sorts on the David Letterman Show. Most certainly he was not the clean cut smooth talking Joaquin from the movie “Walk the line”, in fact his appearance would be more comparable to that of an Amish farmer who had perhaps fallen under the wagon, rather than a mega celebrity.

Since the interview, questions of Joaquin’s sanity or lack of sanity have become all the rage. To make matters worse the star apparently needed to outfit his unkempt self for a super hero hip hop mission recently and made no secret that out of his mind he was. Eyewitness account states that Mr. Phoenix retreated to a Red Balls dressing room quickly clothing himself with a black velvet cape, mesh top and black pants and paid with “money” as he smartly pointed out to the stunned sales girl. Joaquin then rushed into the street, discarded the clothing he wore to the store in a nearby trashcan and was off to save the day.

Some speculation points to the obvious, perhaps drug use? While other speculation would lead us to believe he and Casey Affleck are in on some elaborate drawn out prank to provide footage for a crazy, literally, documentary.

Perhaps in time our questions will be answered. For now let us remember that all genius is stoked by insanity.
