A spokesperson for Kirk Kerkorian has confirmed that the 92-year-old billionaire helped Farrah Fawcett to seek alternative cancer treatments in Germany—by funding her trip.
The “Charlie’s Angel†star and former sex symbol was diagnosed with anal cancer in 2006. After receiving traditional cancer treatments in the United States—which included surgery and chemotherapy—her cancer briefly went into remission. But it returned early in 2007, and the doctors recommended that the star have a colostomy performed on her body.
Fawcett refused and, with Kerkorian’s financial help, flew to Germany for alternative (holistic) cancer treatments that had not been approved in the U.S.
Those treatments failed to cure her cancer, which had spread to her liver, and the star succumbed to the disease on June 25.
Fawcett’s benefactor in her cancer fight remained a secret until the New York Daily News disclosed his identity.
But Kerkorian is modest about his part in Fawcett’s cancer battle. A source told the New York Daily News that the billionaire simply wanted to help a friend that was in pain—and in need.
