When a show fails to get picked up for a new season, it is always a disappointment to fans. However, for Patrick’s Swayze’s fan base, A&E’s omission of “The Beast” in its fall lineup is especially disconcerting.
Swayze has been battling pancreatic cancer, a fight he underwent while filming the first season of the gritty crime drama. Thanks to Swayze’s dedication to his craft, season one found its way to the airwaves. Though the first season did not perform overly well in the ratings, A&E was expected to renew it for a second season.
However, when the network released its fall schedule, “The Beast” was not present, fueling more speculation that the lead’s health may be an issue. There have been reports about Swayze’s flagging health for months now, and this news regarding his show do not paint a very optimistic picture.
Swayze’s battle with cancer has been difficult, and he was reportedly very ill throughout much of the filming for season one. In January, he was sidelined by pneumonia. Though A&E has not officially confirmed the cancellation of the show, the lack of a concrete plan to pick up the show is a foreboding sign for Swayze’s devoted fans.
