Early this morning, in San Jose, California, it was reported that actress Demi Moore might have saved a woman’s life.
On Friday, Demi Moore intervened by responding to a distraught 48-year-old woman who threatened to use a knife to end her life. Using the popular on-line networking site, Twitter, the woman posted a message to Moore’s chat room expressing her intent to commit suicide. She wrote that she was, “Getting a knife, a big one that is sharp. Going to cut my arm down the whole arm so it doesn’t waste time.” According to sources, at the time, Moore was hosting a chat about “the power of collective consciousness” with some of her Twitter followers. When Moore received the message she reponded by asking the woman if she was joking but the woman simply signed off with, “Gbye…gonna kill myself now.”
Moore admits to her Twitter followers that it was a difficult decision to respond but she could not just ignore it. Twitter, used by many celebrities and politicians to connect with fans or constituents, could be just the access to these high-profile people who once remained mostly an enigma. Even president, Barack Obama, is a Twitter user.
Moore had her people report the incident to the authorities who had already received a number of calls from Twittter users regarding the matter. San Jose police went to the home of the woman who was unharmed and she was taken to a hospital for a psychiatric evaluation.
